Job Title: Construction Technician (Outside Plant - Aerial and Underground)

Job Description:

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Construction Technician to join our Outside Plant (OSP) team, focusing on both aerial and underground construction projects. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the installation, maintenance, and expansion of our telecommunications network infrastructure. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and excellence in executing construction tasks in challenging outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of OSP infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, conduits, poles, and underground facilities.
2. Assist with aerial and underground construction activities, such as cable placement, pole setting, trenching, and conduit installation, following project specifications and industry standards.
3. Safely operate construction equipment and power tools, including drills, saws, and excavation machinery, while adhering to safety protocols and OSHA standards.
4. Collaborate with team members to ensure the efficient completion of construction tasks, providing support and assistance as needed to meet project deadlines.
5. Conduct pre-construction site surveys and assessments to identify potential hazards, obstacles, and environmental considerations, implementing mitigation measures as required.
6. Assist with the preparation and organization of materials, equipment, and supplies needed for construction projects, maintaining inventory levels and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at construction sites, including proper storage and disposal of materials, debris, and equipment.
8. Report any safety incidents, accidents, or near misses promptly to supervisors and participate in incident investigations and corrective actions as needed.
9. Provide mentorship and training to junior technicians and apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices to promote skill development and team cohesion.
10. Uphold company policies, procedures, and values, demonstrating a commitment to integrity, professionalism, and excellence in all aspects of job performance.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in construction, telecommunications, or related fields preferred.
2. Proven experience in construction, preferably in an OSP environment, with knowledge of aerial and underground construction techniques and equipment.
3. Familiarity with safety protocols, regulations, and best practices for construction work, including working at heights, excavation, and confined space entry.
4. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
5. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and operate construction equipment in various weather conditions and terrain types.
6. Valid driver's license and clean driving record; willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as required.
7. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with a proactive approach to acquiring new skills and knowledge relevant to the role.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with fiber optic network installations, including cable pulling, splicing, and testing, is a plus.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid and/or OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training is desirable.
• Familiarity with construction industry software and tools for project management and documentation.
