Job Title: Fiber Splicer (OSP - Outside Plant) 

Job Description:

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to join our team in an Outside Plant (OSP) environment, focusing on both aerial and underground construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in splicing fiber optic cables, reviewing splicing diagrams, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards for safety and quality. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the expansion and maintenance of our fiber optic network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform fiber optic splicing and termination in both aerial and underground environments according to project specifications and industry standards.
2. Review and interpret splicing diagrams, splice plans, and engineering drawings to ensure accurate installation and connectivity.
3. Conduct fiber optic testing, troubleshooting, and quality control inspections to verify signal integrity and adherence to performance standards.
4. Operate fusion splicing equipment, OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), and other specialized tools to complete splicing tasks efficiently and effectively.
5. Maintain accurate records of splicing activities, including splice logs, test results, and as-built documentation.
6. Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA standards to minimize risks associated with construction activities, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
7. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to coordinate work activities and ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.
8. Provide mentorship and training to junior technicians and apprentices to foster skill development and promote a culture of safety and excellence.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or training in fiber optics, telecommunications, or related fields preferred.
2. Proven experience as a Fiber Splicer in an OSP environment, with proficiency in aerial and underground construction techniques.
3. Strong understanding of fiber optic splicing principles, fusion splicing technologies, and fiber optic testing methodologies.
4. Ability to read and interpret splicing diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings accurately.
5. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards for telecommunications and construction work.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
7. Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
8. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with OSP fiber optic network installations, including fiber optic cable placement, routing, and enclosures.
• Certification as a Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent is a plus.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as TIA/EIA, ANSI, and NEC (National Electrical Code).
