Role Summary: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Manager of Fiber to lead our clients’ talented fiber team in College Station, Texas. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in managing key performance indicators and driving the success of our fiber department. This is an in office (non-remote) position with travel up to 30% of the time as needed.
Responsibilities: Direct management of all internal fiber division team members including Splicers, Laborers, Designers and other future roles within the department. would currently manage a team of 6 with an additional 12-14 employees added in 2025.
- Analyzation and potential implementation of new software/organizational tools in coordination with peers including specialized industry tools such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, etc.
- Periodic direct involvement with various projects as the party responsible for ensuring completion of fiber related scopes within larger projects.
- Execution of various department and project lifecycle activities such as procurement, resource planning, implementation, research and development, tooling audits and procurement, etc
- Monitor Project Progress, Analyze information, set deadlines & take corrective action where necessary.
- Evaluate and lead team meetings through presentation of metrics for project performance through daily, weekly or monthly retroactive meetings.
- Cost Estimation, change order tracking, analyzing and managing project risk, including the assessment of jobsite readiness through direct and indirect proactive measures up to and including traveling to projects to assess site conditions.
- Track and document progress of development amongst various team members over time.
- Work in coordination with the Operations team to recruit new and manage existing Fiber and Underground Civil Subcontractors through the Master Service Agreement subcontracting program.
- Work in coordination with internal and external Permitting departments and stakeholders to identify and progress R.O.W permits when needed.
- Work in coordination with internal and external Design teams to ensure accurate and correct B.O.M and Site Map Documentation is available, along with detailed splice plans for splicing team members to execute while conducting field activities.
- Oversee and facilitate the quality assurance / quality control program through direct assessment of work activities and the continued development of a QA/QC team as the organization grows.
- Documentation of as built conditions and effecting the correct design alterations to account for real world field outcomes.
- Documentation of OTDR testing results including the generation of PDF reports for project stakeholders.
- Periodic reporting and review of department metrics with Senior level staff members including but not limited to QA/QC, team member performance, design process effectiveness, financial performance review.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Professional, detail-oriented and self driven, must be able to work independently or well in team environments Dynamic team management including coaching and development.
- Basic understanding of IP Networks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products or Google Suite (G-Suite preferred) and experience with editing PDF applications using a program such as Bluebeam or Adobe.
- Foundational understanding of GIS (Graphical Information Systems) and their applicability to the fiber optic industry. Must understand fiber optic standards and design considerations for PTP and passive optical networks.
- Ability to splice ISP and OSP fiber networks according to a provided design, use and interpret results from an OTDR and be able to read and interpret blueprints for construction projects .
- High school diploma or minimum 7 years of related work experience in a leadership role within the Fiber Optic Industry, Valid driver's license and must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of GIS systems preferably ARCGIS
- Demonstrated knowledge of CWDM & DWDM optical network topology, design and implementation
- Experience with fiber optic topology design and implementation
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field. Advanced degrees (master’s or MBA) can be beneficial.
- Relevant certifications, such as Fiber Optic Technician (FOT), Certified Fiber Optic Specialist (CFOS), or Project Management Professional (PMP), can enhance qualifications.
- Understanding of telecommunications regulations and standards.
