Our client is looking for an experienced and strategic
External Affairs Manager to lead external engagement efforts in support of business objectives and public policy initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and nurturing relationships with key external stakeholders, including government entities, industry associations, community organizations, and third-party groups. This role requires a deep understanding of regulatory and policy environments and the ability to provide actionable insights to internal leadership.
This is a hybrid role working 20-30/hrs. per week.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute a comprehensive external affairs strategy that supports business objectives and elevates brand reputation across the industry.

Serve as a thought leader and representative in meetings with elected officials, regulators, industry groups, and community stakeholders.

Foster and maintain strategic relationships with policymakers, industry associations, community organizations, and third-party advocacy groups.

Oversee and coordinate activities of local and state-level lobbyists.

Monitor legislative, regulatory, and policy developments at the state and local levels; provide guidance and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Enhance the organization’s public profile through proactive community engagement, partnerships, and targeted media opportunities.

Collaborate closely with internal teams including Legal, Public Policy, and Communications to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and strategy.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Communications, Political Science, Business, or a related field.

8+ years of experience in external affairs, government relations, or public policy roles.

Proven ability to engage effectively with policymakers, regulators, and community leaders.

Telecommunications or closely related industry experience strongly preferred.

In-depth understanding of local and state regulatory environments.

Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Leadership experience, particularly in managing geographically dispersed teams or external consultants.
