OSP Engineer – G-Fiber and ArcPro exp. preferred
We are seeking an OSP Engineer with solid OSP design, ArcPro and QA/QC experience.
This is an office-based contract role in the Overland Park, Kansas area.
We are looking for someone that really knows and understands Utility pole attachments / aerial pole attachments and the NESC - National Electric Safety Code and ROW rules.
Important:
While this position is not 100% production, you will need a good understanding of ArcPro. Not only should you have good QA/QC skills, but also to see if he can move around in PRO and fix things (hidden layers, resources) as needed and then be able to export the file changes.
You must be able to read, interpret, understand and to produce designs including right of way maps, existing utility drawings, public infrastructure design plans, construction specifications and other design guidelines.
Choose the best places to put cables or conduit installation, and determines splice locations, manhole locations and/or marker pole placements
You’ll also need to determine rules and requirements for local permits and include them in the design plans
Strong CAD experience required: AutoCAD certified with Civil 3D.
Role:
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge with several years of Underground and Aerial design experience and a thorough knowledge of construction placement processes for Aerial plant and UG preferred.
- Detailed Network Design: Develop detailed Outside Plant (OSP) and Fiber to the Home (FTTH/FTTP) network designs, including routing, fiber splicing, and infrastructure placement (aerial, buried, and underground).
- Geospatial Data Management: Create and manage high-level designs (HLDs) and maintain network documentation using GIS platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Katapult, or Google Earth.
- Field Coordination: Collaborate with field survey crews to gather and document information on existing utility poles, conduits, rights-of-way (ROWs), and other features to support final design production.
- Permitting and Compliance: Research permitting requirements and create comprehensive permit packages for submission to state and local municipalities, power companies, railroads, and other utility owners.
- Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Review designs for quality and constructability, identify potential conflicts, and provide support during the construction phase to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with construction managers, project managers, operations teams, and other internal departments to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Vendor Management: Assist in managing the work of external design and QA/QC vendors, ensuring adherence to Google Fiber network standards.
- Budgeting and Reporting: Assist with cost estimation and forecasting for new network builds and infrastructure upgrades.
