Director of Safety - OSP

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Director to lead our safety program in the fast-paced fiber construction industry. The Safety Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies, procedures, and training to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role is critical in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all fields and office operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and enforce company-wide health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures specific to fiber construction operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, local regulatory agencies, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Work with fleet management to ensure proper usage of companies’ vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action follow-ups.
  • Lead safety training programs, toolbox talks, and certification requirements (e.g., confined space, fall protection, traffic control).
  • Oversee safety programs
  • Collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure safety integration into all job planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and metrics for leadership review.
  • Serve as the company’s primary safety representative with clients, regulatory agencies, and insurance providers.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through engagement, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor new safety regulations, technologies, and practices to keep the company ahead of compliance requirements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5–10 years of safety leadership experience in construction, utilities, or telecom/fiber industries.
  • In-depth understanding of OSHA 1926 (Construction) and FMCSA Part 40 and 49 regulations.
  • In depth knowledge of Aerial and Buried Outside Plant Construction
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and state/local safety requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of implementing effective safety programs in field-based environments.
  • Ability to travel frequently to job sites across multi state regions (30% travel will be required)
